The case of the 'Missing Wallpaper'
Sometimes after adjusting XP's Display Properties for whatever reason (perhaps to increase the screensaver timing) the picture that was set as the desktop wallpaper instantly disappears after clicking 'OK'.
All that remains at that point is a solid colour with no picture.

If you go back into Display Propeties and click the Deskop tab you will see the image name (e.g. img001.jpg) and that it is still highlighted.
Searching the machine for "img001.jpg" reveals no results as if the file had been deleted. This is the case even if you tell XP's search to look in Hidden and System folders.

But wait!....That file can't really be deleted...I just saw it flash on and back off again when I logged out. And again when I logged on... see the answer to this and other computer questions on the forum
